Travel insurance is a collection of covers designed to fit a lot of people a lot of the time, there are however numerous exclusions and conditions that make this a very difficult product to explain properly. Many policies exclude all pre-existing medical conditions, both for the person travelling and also the person on whose health the journey depends. Personal possessions cover has low single item limits, often pays out only the value of the item at time of loss rather than replacement cost, and normally require a local police report to be obtained in respect of any lost item. We use a policy that underwrites medical conditions, it may still exclude certain conditions, but will include many conditions providing they are under medical control. We take time to explain the shortfalls in cover and investigate medical conditions at the time of arranging travel insurance. This is often disproportionately time consuming against the modest premiums involved, and for this reason we only offer this product to connected clients and we apply a service charge.

The Money and Pensions Service has a travel insurance directory on its Money Advice Service website for people with serious pre-existing medical conditions
